This is a good article to give context for evaluating hurricanes like Irene of last year and Sandy of this year. Lets hope as it arrives tonite and tomorrow it does not the damage that people are now predicting. I just looked at Weather Underground where I found this link in a Jeff Master’s blog about hurricane Sandy and the potential damage to the New York area is scary.

Here is a short but useful commentary on Pain Free by Pete Egoscue. Brian Bradley of Egoscue shares some thoughts on using the book and particularly delves into the subject of the “Eight Laws of Physical Health” on page 28 of the book. This little tutorial gives a sort of macro view of the way The Egoscue Method views human health maintenance. If you are using the book and feel you could use further attention feel free to give me a call or email. This book should be in everyone’s home and is like (or better) having aspirin in the medicine cabinet. It has helped many thousands over the years and I constantly refer to it in my posture alignment practice.

Your smartphone, or rather what you do with your smartphone is not so smart after all. Hey, but use good posture when doing so!

Land of a Billion Vegetables

Another thought-provoking article from Mark Bittman of the New York Times about where our vegetables come from. He raises raises some questions directly about the implications of providing a great majority of the countries vegetables from a single area such as the California central valley. But also it begs other questions about a more sustainable approach to our national food production system. I have traversed a good section of the very area he talks about and it is truly quite stunning to drive a bizillion miles of agriculture on both sides of the highway witnessing both back-breaking work in the fields and incredible machinery, things like endless rice paddies that just don’t seem to belong there and so on.

Proper posture is the key to strength and health.
Here is a great video put up by Matt Whitehead at Portland Egoscue. It explores why posture should be the core idea behind strength and longterm health. It is by Kathleen Porter who also does great work on the issue of posture. It is about 7 or 8 minutes long.
